Ok, the burner works very well with my little ASUS 900HE. Plug it in a couple of USB ports and off it goes. Nice product. I keep my netbook in the basement on my home network as a backup to my main system and so the drive is useful and welcome, and at a great price.

HOWEVER, the bundled Nero software is garbage. Junk. It took me over 90 minutes to load just the burning software and then when done it wouldn’t run, reporting a missing .dll. I went on the web and found a freeware burning program and had it working perfectly in five minutes. It’s quick and clean, even with my tiny netbook. What with cheap flash drives it is probably less important to have a stand alone optical drive than ever, and I have another portable drive attached to my main computer which can be easily plugged into the netbook. This said, it never hurts to have a back up to read all those archived files and photos that have ended up on discs in the basement over the years and I say this is a very good product. But why buggy software on a disc as slow as molasses is beyond me.

This external drive was purchased to accompany the Samsung Netbook N120. It works as described and is convenient, slim, easy to store and transport and reliable for uploading or for saving information and files on external storage disks. A very good buy.

4 Stars Good external drive
I like this drive. Works good. I think the price is good too. Slim size and doesnt need to be plugged into ac outlet makes it very portable. Unlike what many confused people think it doesnt need to use 2 usb ports in most cases.

If you have usb version 2.0 then you only need to plug one of the usb connectors in and it works fine.

If you have older usb that doesnt put out enough voltage then you can still use it by plugging in both usb connectors to your pc. That is why the second connector is present – to get more power if needed.

I think it will work with usb hubs that are plugged into ac outlet but not ones that dont have a power adapter because they dont have enough juice to power the unit once the usb has been split to multiple ports. At least it works with the hub on my desktop that has ac adapter. The same is true with my usb hard drive also so I think this is to be expected with any device that gets its power through the usb cable as opposed to a seperate ac power cord.

Nero software has issues with some computers. It is a free bundled software with the unit so while I am disappointed that it doesnt work with one of my 2 computers its not a real big deal. Also, I cant blame samsung that dvd burning software like roxio and nero costs so much if I want to go buy it. That would be like blaming hp or dell or some pc mfr that adobe cs4 costs more than double what my pc cost… I am just happy an external dvd drive is so cheap.

4 Stars Great external disc drive
I purchased this for a 10in Dell laptop. I have been able to install software and burn files and documents from the computer…. exactly what I expected!!

4 Stars Great DVD Drive but software has a fault!
Great drive. Small, compact and designed for Netbooks. It is highly rated and well built.

Only problem is the software. The Nero 8 will not allow sound from the drive to play in it’s media player. Searching online found that it is an error with the software that has been around for years! Nero knows it, yet refuses to fix it, hoping you will buy there full version to fix it.

The fix that I found, and that works great, is to just download a codec file from a place like [...] for free and play the dvd’s on Windows Media Player.

So like I said, great drive but crappy software
