I ordered this monitor from Amazon on Thursday and I received it on Monday. This was very prompt standard shipping service. I have limited space with not enough room for a wide screen monitor. This 4 X 3 monitor fits my space very well. The monitor works very well with a sharp and bright display. I have been using it for about a month and am well pleased with it. The only negative thing about this was the instructions for adjusting the display were not very clear and it took a little time to figure out how to do it.

A good, reasonably priced monitor with hard-to-find 4:3 aspect ratio. On sale from Tiger Direct 9.98 incl shipping. Replaced the blown 17″ CRT on my semi-retired Dell Dimension LR1000. Had concerns about O/S compatiblity but Win ME loaded a driver without the install disc or internet. Performance with Photoshop 5.0 (sharpness, resolution, color rendition, brighntess, contrast) very good in my amateur opinion. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced 4:3 monitor.

An Acer monitor with more than just an attractive cost, this product performs admirably. Adjustment controls abound and provide more than enough image selection options. Performance is excellent with sharp text and beautiful images. Monitor external controls have a definite high-tech feel. This big-name unit has superb value and provided a high level of satisfaction on my part. A great 1280×1024 resolution choice.

I’m an airline pilot who commutes and was in need of some sort of device for internet access. I considered a smart phone, but with low battery life, small display and lack of a real keyboard that sort of ruled that out. I also considered an IPAD but again, lack of keyboard, low storage space and price were all factors for me not choosing that route. The ASUS EEEpc 1018p really fills the bill on several fronts. First, it is very compact and light. Not much thicker or heavier than an IPAD and this has a full and very functional keyboard. It also runs windows 7 which is a big plus as far as I’m concerned.

Out of the box, the performance just wasn’t that great. It seemed like the system was just a little overwhelmed with all the tasks it had to perform. However, once I went into services and set all the unnecessary services to manual (there are a bunch of them) and set all the startup programs but my anti-virus to manual in msconfig, a massive improvement in performance was realised.

Battery life is good, but not as good as advertised. I’m guessing about 5 or 6 hours of continuous use.

All around a good machine once you tweak windows a little.

Q&A: Is the iPad a music player capable of headphones and portable or even bookshelf speakers?

Question by mark_hensley@sbcglobal.net: Is the iPad a music player capable of headphones and portable or even bookshelf speakers?
High quality music along with the svelte shape of the iPad could greatly help as a tool for presentations. Please inform.

Answer by Aric Rodriguez
If you’re asking, “Can I use an iPad to play music over large speakers?” you can. All you have to do is get speakers that have a jack that fits, or an adapter for the jack to the speakers so it fits.

Solid Performer, December 4, 2010

This review is from: Acer AS7741G-7017 17.3-Inch Laptop ( Black) (Personal Computers)

I’ve waited to review this Acer AS7741G-7017 so it would be a more informed and experienced based review. Overall this is a very nice looking and solid performing laptop that has a quality appearance and feel to it. The keyboard has a nice feel to it and the display is crisp. I multitask all the time on this and the performance is very good. I usually have a Word document open, Excel file, Interner browser and a cpu intensive trading program open that updates market data every 0.5 seconds and charts the data and I have experienced no delays or slowdowns in processing. In addition, sometimes I will watch a video while everything else is running. I really like this laptop overall and recommend it if it fits your needs. The Windows Experience Index rating is Processor 6.8, Memory(RAM) 5.9, Graphics 6.7, Primary Hard Disk 5.4. So this points out the slowness of the hard drive and the lower frequence RAM that is installed. So, if speed is primary, and your demands on this computers ability to process at higher speeds is that important to you, you will want to upgrade and add a faster hard drive and higher frequency RAM. I’m not a gamer so I can’t speak to that aspect of performance and the speed is fast enough for me right now, although I will probably add 8MB of 1333mhz RAM and a SSD (solid state drive) in the near future to maximize the speed, the Windows performance rating would be really high then. I’ve been connected to various wireless networks over the last month: hotels, coffee shops, libariries, and my home and have hed no problems connecting or dropping of the signal and the networks were a mixure of wireless-n and wireless-g signals. I’m usually on a wireless connection 3-5 hours a day. So there are plenty of strenghs to this laptop including quality construction, appearance, and performance. I’ve had zero reliability issues. I’ve owned Dell and HP laptops in the past and after buying this one I’ll never go back to those brands, I believe their quality and or price to not be as good a value as ACER. Coupled with this laptop being on sale, no tax, and no shipping, I think it a good value. I took a star off for the slow hard drive and slow RAM and for speakers that are rediculously weak (you will want earbuds or headphones for this laptop). I hope this review helps you make an informed decision on whether or not to purchase the Acer AS7741G-7017.

Mid end gaming laptop with everything you don’t need, October 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Acer AS7741G-7017 17.3-Inch Laptop ( Black) (Personal Computers)

I’ve owned several mid-low end laptops over the years and this one is the best yet. Fast fast fast, I don’t notice much difference between my i7 desktop and this. Ofcourse the graphics card isn’t as fast as my desktop’s (desktop has an HD 5850) but I can’t see how you could run anything better without burning up the battery in 10 minutes. I can play Street fighter 4 with mostly everything maxed out except AA, if I add any AA the game slows down to under 40 FPS so it’s unplayable. for 0 you can’t beat it, and i’ve always had great luck with acer, i’ve owned the aspire ONE and a different acer with a 17″ screen (which i dropped and broke) The texture on the laptop is a plus too, the smooth shiny stuff on my acer ONE netbook got scratched to hell and looked bad even though it worked perfectly. I definitely recommend this laptop as an entry level gaming laptop. I would NOT buy anything with a less powerful graphics card, this one is just right for a laptop IMO. I noticed very little “bloatware” on this laptop which is always a plus, remember to make the backup DVD ASAP!

Died after 4 months of use, October 28, 2010

This review is from: Acer AS7741G-7017 17.3-Inch Laptop ( Black) (Personal Computers)

I’d previously given this laptop a 5 star review based on my impression of it’s hardware capabilities vs the low cost. I was impressed with the raw hardware performance. The ability to play modern games with moderate settings. It’s quick speed in multitasking. All of these were very impressive to me. The problem now after owning this laptop (very briefly. My previous laptop, a Dell, lasted 3 years and was used and abused and traveled across the country with me in every scenario you could imagine.) They Acer simply fell apart with minor use. The keys on the keyboard fells off. The hinges where the screen connects to the base cracked. And finally, after only 1 trip, the harddrive died. I lost everything I had backed up since I made the acer my primary laptop and got rid of my previous dell. I can assure you I will never purchase another Acer product as long as I live. Currently happy with my less technically impressive but much better built Asus laptop.
